Slow Start in St. Thomas

Sunday, March 10, 2013 (Day 2)
(This is part 2 of a 6 day trip.  See "Surprise!!! St. Thomas Here We Come" for part 1.)

We got a late start this day since we were still trying to get some sleep after being awakened at 4 am by the roosters.  The view from our balcony this morning was beautiful.

Our rental car was finally available so hubby went to pick it up.  Upon his return we had breakfast at the resorts’ pool bar called “Life’s a Breeze.”  We each enjoyed the $5 breakfast sandwiches.

After breakfast, we headed over to Pueblo to get some groceries.  We decided to purchase breakfast, lunch & snack items.  The total came to $94.72.  All items were higher priced than the grocery stores back home, which is understandable since all items must shipped from the mainland USA.  We then headed back to the resort to put the groceries away.

Now the fun can begin... We headed over to Morningstar Beach to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.  At this time of day, there was only one parking space available but plenty of space on the beach.  We stayed through sunset.  (Be sure to apply insect repellant if staying for the sunset, as we were bitten by noseeums.)

Morningstar beach is a free public beach located in front of Marriott's Morningstar Beach Resort.  It is free of garbage & debris.  There are plenty of beach chairs & umbrellas available.  You can also rent snorkel gear, sea-doos, kayaks, and boogey boards.  The water is a beautiful shade of blue.  It is pretty clear, so you can see straight down to the sand.  Most of the sea bottom is sandy but there were sections of the beach that had small pebbles.  There is a beach bar named Coconut Joe's and a restaurant named Havana Blue.  The restroom facilities were available to the public free of charge and were kept clean.

After going back to the resort to clean-up for dinner, we were all a little tired so we decided to grab some wings from Hooters.   My daughter had the 10 piece boneless wings ($10.99).  I shared an order of 10 piece BBQ wings with my husband ($10.99).  He also had a blackened mahi mahi sandwich with coleslaw ($15.99) and we shared an order of curly fries ($4.49).  It was our first time eating at Hooters and we were not disappointed with the quality of the food.  We headed back to the resort and called it a night.
